Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Vice President of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 23 December with the delegation led by Vice President of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz who are visiting in our country for the 12th meeting of the Joint Inter-Governmental Commission for economic co-operation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Türkiye.
Having expressed pleasure with yet another meeting with the guest, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis turned to the importance of the conducted 12th meeting of the Joint Inter-Governmental Commission. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis remarked that the relationship of the two countries consisted in the maxim of National Leader Heydar Aliyev – ‘One Nation, Two States’ – before mentioning the strengthening of our links in economic, trade, educational, tourism, inter-parliamentary and other areas from day to day. It was stressed in the course of the conversation that the personal relations and close contacts between the Heads of State constitute the principal factor behind the continuing development of the alliance. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova offered congratulations on Türkiye’s having been elected as the COP31 host, adding that Azerbaijan was forever next to the fraternal country.
Content was expressed at the meeting with the traditionally close co-operation and mutual support of Azerbaijan and Türkiye in all the fields; the significance of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) for the unity of the Turkic World was pointed up, too.
The importance of inter-parliamentary links as a considerable component of the inter-state relations; the pertaining work done by the Friendship Groups active in our parliaments was underlined as well. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis expressed satisfaction with the successful advancement of bilateral, trilateral and multilateral co-operation between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Vice President of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz witnessed his pleasure with being in Azerbaijan once more and thanked for Azerbaijan’s efforts put in backing Türkiye’s election as the COP31 host, adding that Türkiye was going to use the Azerbaijani experience of hosting such a massive international event.
The mega-projects that our countries are implementing in conjunction in economy and trade, investment, energy and other sectors are of material regional and global significance, it was remarked at the meeting. The strategic importance of the Zangazur Corridor, poised to become the main artery of the Middle Corridor, was high-lit in this respect.
It was said during the conversation that the progress of the relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye made OTS stronger still. It also remarked that, along with that, TurkPA is as important as the parliamentary platform of the Turkic-speaking states.
The Vice President of Türkiye said at the meeting that the Action Plan of economic co-operation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Republic of Türkiye, approved at the 12th meeting of the Joint Inter-Governmental Commission, will lead to continued development of our relations.
As the conversation continued, Cevdet Yılmaz also touched upon the achievements in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, saying that signing the peace treaty between the two countries would provide for peace and stability in the region.
The meeting had an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest as well.
